The beginning of a new era in the Chinese Energy Industry

The first 20 Solar Thermal Power Plants to initiate the Chinese “1GW Demonstration Plant Program” are expected to be built in the next two years.

The first power plant to be built is situated in central China, in Delingha, Qinghai Province, which lies between Mongolia and Tibet. The project is currently in design and planning phases with construction starting next Autumn.

The 50 MW power plant will rely on a Thermal Storage System for the provision of energy, ensuring that electricity is available during night time or overcast days.

Our Chinese client, Shouhang/Suncan, is applying the EuroTrough Collector, an established and proven solar power technology effectively developed by schlaich bergermann partner sbp sonne gmbh, and successfully implemented in many countries. Shouhang/Suncan opted to acquire the licence to build EuroTrough Collector Solar Thermal Power Plants from sbp sonne gmbh.

The many thousands of steel structures required for the project will be mechanically manufactured using robotics technology. sbp sonne gmbh is assigned to oversee the technical engineering control of the project and the execution of the first Parabolic Trough Power Plant in China.

sbp is thrilled to be part of this program.
