The German Pension Insurance Braunschweig-Hannover is a regional provider of the German Pension Insurance in Lower Saxony. It aims to cover up to 50 percent of its annual electricity consumption with self-generated solar power in the long term – in combination with an existing geothermal system. To this end, a photovoltaic system was installed in the existing parking lot. The substructure was designed to be architecturally sophisticated and implemented as a resource-saving solution. A filigree tension band construction forms a continuous supporting structure that extends over the parking lot area. The installed PV modules form a canopy over the parking spaces. Only the tension bands are located above the roadway.
A total of 1,752 PV modules were installed, 456 PV modules on parking lot Ia and 1,296 PV modules on parking lot I. On the eastern part of the construction project, 54 solar modules were installed per row, and on the western part, 19 modules per row.
The PV system has a roof area of 5,100 m² and a PV area of approximately 3,600 m². This means that the PV area represents approximately 70% of the roof area. The total output of 630 kWp is generated by the 1,752 PV modules installed, each with an output of 360 Wp.
